First Red Scare 1919-1920 Many people were blamed and arrested because the were thought to have beliefs in communism.
Chinese Civil War 1927-1936 1945-1950 A rivalry became a war. It was a war fought between the nationalist government of china and the communist party of china.
Berlin Airlift June 24th, 1948-May 12th, 1949 The Soviet union had built a barricade in the city of Berlin. The United States and Great Britain flew around 277,000 flights into Berlin and carried over 2.3 million tons of supplies into the city.
Second Red Scare 1947-1957 Many people were afraid that communism would infiltrate the United States. Many were afraid that anyone who sides with communist and the Soviets would give them the secret information about the U.S.
Korean War June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953 The United States was only trying to defend South Korea and later turned offensive. Truman states war was now about liberating North Korea from communism.
Vietnam War November 1st, 1955- April 30, 1975 Nixon had became president and started to remove troops from Vietnam. The cause behind the war was because Americans kept believing that communism was spreading around Asia. The united states and soviet union did not want to risk an all out war with Asia.
Suez Crisis October 1956 The Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nassar wanted to modernize Egypt so he decided to build the Aswan Dam. In order to pay for this dam, he took control of the Suez Canal that at the time, was co-controlled by Great Britain and France.
Bay of Pigs April 17, 1961- April 19, 1961 This invasion started when a group of CIA-financed and trained group or refugees tried to topple the communist government of Fidel Castro. During this invasion it took too long for troops and ammunition to get off the ships. Before the ammunition was unloaded, Cuban planes sunk the hips.
Cuban Missile Crisis October 16th, 1962- October 28th, 1962 an American U-2 spy plane captured pictures of long range Soviet missiles in Cuba. This was President Kennedy's greatest time because after the loss of the pay of pigs, people questioned his leadership. When the crisis was over, people became confident in Kennedy again.
Yom Kippur War October 6th- October 25th 1973 A war between Israel and Arab states of Egypt and Syria. The united states helped to supply Israel with weapons as well as putting pressure on the attacking states to stop fighting.
Soviet Afghanistan war December 24th, 1979- February 15, 1989 This war was caused by the Soviets 40th army invading Afghanistan in order to prop up the communist government of the People's Democratic Party. Many of the Soviet soldiers were untested in battle and their gear was not designed for the harsh environment of Afghanistan.
Berlin wall November 9, 1989 Germany split into two separate countries. East Germany became a communist country under the control of the Soviet Union. West Germany was a democratic country and allied with Britain, France, and the United States. The wall came down when Ronald Reagan gave a speech in Berlin asking Gorbachev to tear down the wall.
Collapse of the Soviet Union December 26th, 1991 The Soviet Union had dissolved and at the same time, Gorbachev announced his resignation. After this the Soviet Union split into 15 separate independent countries.
